Meet Laurene

Laurene is a native of Texas who has a love for old things and their place in African American history. She is a recently retired from the telecommunications industry and loves researching, investigating and learning new things about her family and others. Laurene loves to travel and learn about other cultures and their history. During the pandemic of 2020 she has been reviewing stored away items from her family that have not been seen in decades.

She loves to hear stories about “the old days” from her elders and what it was like growing up in a small bedroom community in East Texas. She grew up in the home her grandparents built for their family in the early 1900’s. Her mom’s side of the family were farmers and sharecroppers. While digging through family treasures she has found letters and other items.

She and a few other family members continually search for hidden treasures among the newfound gems about relatives who have passed on.
